Beans

Maximise your yield & cut your operating costs with Sky Terra

Beans can turn fast with weather, moisture, and pest pressure and staying on top of timing is what keeps yield and pod quality on track. That’s where Sky Terra fits in. We understand how important clean, even coverage is for fungicides, insect control, and nutrition work throughout the season.

Our drones get across bean crops without flattening rows or compacting soil, delivering accurate application even when the ground is too wet for machinery. Every pass is GPS-guided, giving consistent coverage from headland to headland.

We also run multispectral monitoring to pick up early signs of stress disease hot spots, moisture issues, nutrient deficiencies, or uneven growth so you can step in before it affects flowering or pod set.

It’s a clean, low-impact way to protect your bean crop, keep your timings sharp, and stay ahead of pressure from early growth right through to finish.

Field Prep to Harvest

Bean Growth Stages & Spray Passes (Simple Guide)

(Approx. 3–6 spray applications per season depending on pests, nutrition, and disease pressure)

  • Field Preparation
    – Soil worked, beds formed, moisture balanced, weeds controlled.
    – Knockdown herbicide applied here (Pass 1).

  • Planting
    – Beans sown into warm, moist soil for quick, even emergence.
    – Pre-emergent herbicide sometimes applied (Pass 2 – optional).

  • Emergence & Early Vegetative Growth
    – Seedlings break the soil; first leaves unfold.
    – Early insect spray if pressure appears (Pass 3 – optional).
    – Starter foliar nutrition if needed.

  • Vegetative Growth (Rapid Canopy Build)
    – Plants develop leaves, branches, and root structure.
    – Fungicide if early disease risk is present (Pass 4 – optional).
    – Foliar nutrition to support strong growth.

  • Flowering
    – Pods begin forming; high sensitivity to stress.
    – Main fungicide application to protect flowers and young pods (Pass 5 – common).
    – Insect control for Heliothis or other pests if needed.

  • Pod Set & Pod Fill
    – Pods grow and fill; nutritional demand increases.
    – Targeted insect or disease spray if pressure spikes (Pass 6 – optional).
    – Late nutrition in some programs.

  • Maturation
    – Plants dry down; pods reach full size and colour change begins.
    – No sprays unless pests threaten pod quality.

  • Harvest
    – Pods dry and are collected mechanically or by hand depending on system.
    – No spray passes here.

Typical Total Spray Count:

3–6 applications per season
(up to 7 in high pest/disease seasons)
