Wheat

Maximise your yield & cut your operating costs with Sky Terra

Wheat rewards the growers who stay ahead of timing—and that’s where Sky Terra steps in. We understand how quickly a wheat crop can shift with weather, moisture, and growth stage, and how important it is to hit fungicides, nutrition, and pest control right when the crop needs it.

Our drones deliver even coverage across tall or lodged crops without running gear through the paddock, compacting soil, or waiting for rigs to get on after rain.

We handle early nutrition, stripe rust work, insect control, and late-season foliar passes with accuracy and consistency.

We also run multispectral monitoring to pick up early signs of stress disease pressure, dry patches, nutrient issues, or uneven growth so you can make better decisions before yield is affected.

It’s a clean, efficient, low-impact way to stay on top of crop health, protect grain quality, and keep your wheat on track from early tillering through to finish.

Book Your Application or Season Package

Ready to book your wheat spraying? Our drones get across the crop quickly, hitting fungicide, insect, and foliar passes right when the crop needs them, even if ground rigs can’t get in.

Field Prep to Harvest

Wheat Growth Stages & Spray Passes (Simple Guide)

(Approx. 2–5 spray applications per season depending on rust, pests, nutrition, and seasonal pressure)

  • Field Preparation
    – Stubble managed, moisture stored, weeds knocked down.
    – Knockdown herbicide applied here (Pass 1).

  • Planting (Sowing)
    – Seed sown into moisture for even germination.
    – Pre-emergent herbicides commonly applied (Pass 2).

  • Emergence & Early Tillering
    – Seedlings emerge; tillers begin forming.
    – Early insect control if needed (Pass 3 – optional).
    – Early foliar nutrition depending on soil status.

  • Mid Tillering to Stem Elongation
    – Crop thickens; stem begins to rise.
    – First fungicide for early rust or disease risk (Pass 4 – conditional).
    – Additional nutrition passes if required.

  • Flag Leaf Stage
    – Flag leaf appears; one of the most important yield stages.
    – Key fungicide pass to protect leaf health (Pass 5 – common).

  • Booting & Heading
    – Head forms inside the stem and then emerges.
    – Insect control and fungicide depending on pressure (Pass 6 – optional).

  • Flowering (Anthesis)
    – Pollination occurs; crop highly sensitive.
    – Fusarium/flowering sprays only in high-risk areas (Pass 7 – optional).

  • Grain Fill
    – Grain develops and hardens.
    – Late fungicide applied in some programs to protect grain quality (Pass 8 – optional).

  • Ripening
    – Crop dries down; colour changes to golden.
    – No spray passes here.

  • Harvest
    – Combines harvest grain when moisture is right.
    – No spray passes here.

Typical Total Spray Count:

2–5 applications per season
(up to 6–8 in extreme rust or pest years)
